What the Heck is a Max Raid Battle?

We've seen Mega Evolutions, we've seen Alolan versions, we've seen Z-Moves and now we are seeing Dynamax and Max Raids.

So to start off, there is an open world feature to the new Sword and Shield games that will be sure to get fans excited after they had requested it for some time. The details about it are not super concrete and it seems to be like the Pal Parks where the Pokémon that appear are dependent on the weather which maybe subject to change?

In this open world, players can see Pokémon appear in the wild similar to the "Let's Go" games which is really exciting. There are also beams of light shooting out of the ground. At these lights, monster sized Pokémon can be battled with friends on a local play. The stats and overall power match their monster size like Totem Pokémon in Sun and Moon, so they wont go down easy. These are called Max Raids and are similar to the Raids in Pokémon Go where you and your friends have to team up to wear down the Raid Boss until either you or they are defeated.

To even the odds against the Raid bosses, players can make their Pokémon massive as well with the Dynamax Band.

Combine Mega Evolution with Z-Moves and you get Dynamax! This allows the players Pokémon to become large as well and use specific "Max Moves" that can be used in these Raid Battles as well as in Gym Battles. The trick is timing. The difference between Dynamax and Mega Evolution is that a Dynamax will only last for three turns. Use it wisely!
